Edmund White has written several acclaimed novels, including Forgetting Elena and A Boy's Own Story, as well as a collection of short fiction. He is also widely known in the gay community for such works as States of Desire: Travels in Gay America and The Joy of Gay Sex, which he called his moment of personal liberation as a homosexual.
