On April 17, 1961, 1,400 armed exiles organized by the C.I.A. landed at the Bay of Pigs in Cuba in the first major challenge to Fidel Castro's government. Castro's forces responded quickly, striking rebels on the beach and causing a major blow to the anti-Castro movement. In this speech, delivered at a press conference, he talks about the U.S.'s commitment to anti-communist efforts.
