On April 11, 1951, President Harry Truman stripped General Douglas MacArthur of all his commands in the Far East. MacArthur was accused of challenging the administration's foreign policies. Eight days later, MacArthur stood before a joint meeting of Congress to bid them farewell. This deeply emotional address is considered one of the most memorable orations ever heard from the nation's capital.
