On January 15, 1962, President John F. Kennedy gave his second State of the Union. In it, he talks about strengthening the economy and fighting inflation by doing more than balancing the budget. He calls for a strengthening of America's cities, with a new Department of Urban Affairs and Housing, as well as its rural areas, with a new comprehensive farm program and a long-range conservation and recreation program. In addition, Kennedy addresses civil rights, health and welfare, education, foreign policy, defense strategies, the United Nations, Latin America, and more.
