A twist on the format of Steve Allen's classic show, this ninth volume features William Shakespeare joined by 5 people of his own imagination rather than other figures from history. He converses with Othello (played by William Marshall), the Dark Lady of the Sonnets (Jayne Meadows), Romeo (Charles Lanyer), Hamlet (Anthony Costello), and the Ghost of Hamlet's father (Fred Sadoff). Despite their eloquent iambic pentameter dialogue, the characters are an unruly bunch. They confront their creator, played by Harris Yulin, with long-standing controversies about their identities...but they're not above expressing their irritations with each other, too. Allen, of course, plays umpire and, finally, we can see that, in Shakespeare's literary world at any rate, "all's well that ends well."
